Allegra (Fexofenadine)
Allegra Information
Allegra, with the generic name of Fexofenadine, works against
chemical histamines that are naturally occurring in the body.
Allegra Indications
Allegra is used to control:
- Sneezing
- Runny nose
- Itchy or watering eyes
- Other allergic symptoms
Allegra Warnings/Precautions
Dosage adjustments or special monitoring may be required to
patients with either heart, liver, or kidney disease if they are to
undergo treatment with Allegra. It is therefore advised to have a
talk with your doctor first before deciding to take this drug.
Allegra belongs to a class of drugs called FDA Pregnancy Category
C. Do not take this drug if you are pregnant without consulting your
doctor first as it is not known how it can affect an unborn child.
Breastfeeding mothers are also suggested to see their doctor
before taking Allegra as it is not certain if it passes through
breast milk.
This drug is not approved for use by children below 6 years old,
and for patients with allergic reactions to Fexofenadine.
Allegra Intake Instructions
Take Allegra as directed by your physician. Normally it is taken
twice a day, in the morning and in the evening. Each dose is taken
with a full glass of water.
If there is any instruction in the label that appears unclear to
you, ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist to explain it to you.
Allegra Missed Dose
Unless directed by your doctor, Allegra must not be double dosed.
If you happen to miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember as
long as it is not almost time for the next scheduled dose.
Otherwise, skip missed dose and proceed with the next.
Allegra Overdose
If symptoms of over dosage are suspected, consult your doctor for
the proper medical action.
Allegra Side Effects
Stop intake of Allegra and seek immediate medical attention if
you experience any of the following allergic reactions:
- Difficulty in breathing
- Closing of the throat
- Swelling of the lips, tongue, face, or hives
Severe side effects are unlikely to occur. However, should you
feel nausea or stomach upset, inform your doctor and still continue
use of Allegra.
For other side effects not mentioned that are particularly
causing discomfort, tell your doctor immediately.
Allegra Drug Interactions
Antacids containing aluminum and magnesium may lessen the
effectiveness of Allegra. Do not take Allegra close to an antacid
like the following:
- Rolaids
- Maalox
- Mylanta
- Milk of Magnesia

Some other drugs may have interaction with Allegra. Have a talk
with your doctor before you decide to take other prescribed or
over-the-counter medicines, including herbal products.
